The CompTIA A+ Certification is an entry level CompTIA A+ certification for hardware technicians. A+ Certification exam was developed in 1993 to measure and validate the skills of entry level technicians. Certifications earned on or after January 1, 2011, are valid for 3 years, after which they will expire unless renewed by either passing the most current exam for the certification or by earning credits through CompTIA’s continuing education program. If you earned this certification before 2011, it does not have to be renewed and is considered valid for life.

In order to receive CompTIA A+ certification a candidate must pass two exams. The first exam is CompTIA A+ Essentials, exam number 220-701. The CompTIA A+ Essentials examination measures necessary competencies for an entry-level IT professional with the equivalent knowledge of at least 500 hours of hands-on experience in the lab or field. Successful candidates will have the knowledge required to understand the fundamentals of computer technology, networking and security, and will have the comptia network skills required to identify hardware, peripheral, networking, and security components.
